     Thailand has grown to become one of the world’s major food exporters. From
a position thirty years ago where only the surplus was exporters, The food industry
has grown to the point where many exports are processed, or have some form of value
addition. And the industry accounts for almost 20% of the nation’s total exports. This
growth has resulted in the import of new technologies, The development of new
products, the search for new markets and a new focus on quality. Concurrent with this
has been the growth in food science and technology and an increasing emphasis on
developing the human resources necessary to support the industry.
FoSTAT is a non-government professional organization established in 1976.
FoSTAT’s mission is to promote food science and technological knowledge to food
industries. It provides technological consultancy, training and workshop for
members. It also supports state policies in strengthening qualities and safety in food
manufacturing, as well as exchanging technology information with local and
international counterparts.


     FoSTAT has since grown to over 914 members, Including 649 corporate
members. The Association is very active in supporting Thai industry and in promoting
international relations in the food sector. FoSTAT is an Allied Organization of the
IFT and IUFoST Adhering Body. It serves as the member of Federation of Institute
of Food Science and Technology in ASEAN or FIFSTA. FoSTAT is a member of the
Federation of Institutes of Food Science & Technology in ASEAN (FIFSTA).

region, or perhaps the wide range of both Thai food exports and imports, FoSTAT can
be a useful initial point of contact for further information.


Objectives

  • To promote knowledge in food science and technology.
  • To promote research and development within industry.
  • To provide technical advice to members.
  • To exchange technical information, both locally and internationally.
  • To provide technical training and human resource development for the food industry.
  • To support national policies for strengthening food quality and safety in industry.
  • To provide a central role in coordinating with international agencies.
